The Canadian Paediatric Society recommends:

  • All breastfed babies receive a daily vitamin D supplement of 400 IU until about one year of age.
  • At about one year of age most babies are eating a variety of foods from all food groups and are drinking approximately two cups (500 mL) of cow’s milk each day. At this time, a vitamin D supplement is no longer needed.

You can find more information about introduction of solid foods and vitamin D at  www.eatrightontario.ca.
